How it Works
Rent Your Backyard can help you to make extra money from a beautiful new home in your backyard. Or front yard, depending on your situation.
Your ‘Minor Dwelling Unit’ is built in a factory offsite in around two months and we’ll install it in your backyard in less than two weeks.
Best of all, our team of experts will handle the whole process for you.
1. Assess your backyard
We’ll check the size, slope, services and situation to show you where your new 2-bedroom rental home will sit. We’ll make sure there’s privacy for both you and your tenants.
2. Organise the mortgage
We have a financial template for the mortgage application. Our broker will get you a great interest rate, so less of the rent is needed to pay for the home. And more is left for your pocket!
3. Get building consent
When we have everything needed, from a geotech report to site and construction plans, we’ll lodge the Building Consent application with Auckland City Council.
4. Build your home
Once we have consent, we’ll build your new home. But there’s no mess in your backyard, because we build the entire home in a factory offsite! We’ll deliver it on a truck and crane it onto site.
5. Deliver and install
The home is complete and ready to rent with ALL appliances, including dishwasher, fridge, washing machine and dryer. We’ll need a few days to connect services and build the deck.
6. Tenants move in!
We can even help you appoint a property manager, if you want. You can expect to get top dollar for a fully-insulated, brand new home. And now you can start banking the rent!
